The report of my death was an exaggeration.
Original quote by Mark Twain

With the general embracement of mobile devices connected to the internet, we have dismissed the technology that changed our lives, making aside the phone calls for text messaging.

We learned about the convenience of sending short, direct and quick SMS messages, using our mobile phones, over traditional phone calls. We can remember how merely 8 or 10 years ago, cellular networks collapsed due to the overflow of greetings messages at New Year’s Eve.

There is a general perception that the use of SMS messages is declining in favor of social networks. Nothing far away from reality, SMS messaging has taken a new impulse and is present in banking notifications, travel reservations or fast food delivery confirmations. SMS messages, by nature, always get delivered to the mobile phones. They are not filtered, like email is, by spam filters. It is a technology available in every mobile phone and every cellular network globally. It is the common denominator in phone networks around the world.

Janium has supported SMS messaging for many years now. Nevertheless, we have noticed that our users hadn’t embraced this technology not because it’s technical complexity, the main obstacle is administrative. It is mandatory to contract with local vendors that have different use and payment policies.

Janium may supply now the on demand SMS messaging service in every market that we serve. Janium takes care of the configuration and on going support to keep operating the notifications to library users. The service can be configured to send SMS messages besides email messages or instead of them.

The commercial area can give you a cost estimate for messaging in your country. As an example, messages in Mexico and Colombia are around 0,07 dollars (per message). These prices are for on demand use, discounts are available for monthly packages of committed messages. Pricing varies depending on the local phone companies.
